Publication Ethics & Malpractice Policy

The Journal of Nanomycology adheres to the highest ethical standards in scholarly publishing and follows the recommendations and guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Scope: This policy applies to authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher and governs all editorial and publishing activities.

For ethical concerns, appeals, or complaints: editor@nanomycology.org

1. General Statement

All parties involved in the publishing process (authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher) are required to adhere to ethical principles to ensure the integrity, transparency, and credibility of the scholarly record.

2. Plagiarism Policy

The journal applies a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism. The journal uses plagiarism detection software such as Turnitin or iThenticate. Manuscripts containing plagiarism will be rejected, and the authors’ institutions may be informed when necessary.

Reminder: Proper citation is required for all reused ideas, text, data, and figures (including the authors’ own prior work).

3. Redundant Publication and Self-Plagiarism

Duplicate submission, redundant publication, and self-plagiarism without proper citation constitute unethical publishing behavior. Manuscripts must not be under consideration by another journal and must not have been previously published, except in the form of abstracts, preprints, or academic theses with full disclosure.

4. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Allowed Permitted Use

  • AI tools may be used only for language editing and grammar improvement.

Not Allowed Prohibited Use

  • AI tools must not be used to generate scientific results, interpretations, images, or data.
  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors.
Disclosure: Authors must disclose any use of AI tools in manuscript preparation. The journal reserves the right to use AI-detection tools when necessary.

5. Data Fabrication and Falsification

Fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation of research data or images is strictly prohibited. Suspected cases will be investigated following COPE guidelines.

6. Statistical Analysis

Authors must clearly describe the statistical methods used, including the type of tests applied, sample size determination, confidence intervals, and significance levels. Statistical software and version must be specified. Reviewers may request access to raw data for verification of results when necessary.

7. Authorship

Authorship is limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All authors must approve the final manuscript and agree to its submission.

8. Changes in Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after submission must be justified in writing and approved by all listed authors. Changes are permitted only before publication and at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief.

9. Conflicts of Interest

Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence their work. All declared conflicts of interest will be published with the article when relevant.

10. Ethical Approval

Research involving human participants or animals must comply with recognized ethical standards and must have obtained approval from the appropriate institutional ethics committee. A statement of ethical approval must be included in the manuscript.

11. Peer Review Process

The journal employs a double-blind peer review process involving at least two independent reviewers. Reviewers are selected based on their expertise and are required to evaluate manuscripts objectively and confidentially.

12. Duties of Editors

  • Make publication decisions based on scientific merit, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope.
  • Maintain confidentiality and avoid conflicts of interest in the editorial process.

13. Duties of Reviewers

  • Treat manuscripts as confidential documents.
  • Provide objective and constructive evaluations.
  • Declare any conflicts of interest.
  • Avoid using unpublished material for personal advantage.

14. Data Availability

Authors should provide access to data upon reasonable request and include a Data Availability Statement in their manuscript. When applicable, data should be deposited in recognized public repositories.

15. Article Processing Charges

The journal publishes all accepted articles free of charge during its initial launch phase. All publication costs are covered by the Iraqi Mushroom and Truffle Platform. This policy will remain in effect until early 2027. After that, a modest and reasonable publication fee will be applied.

16. Open Access and Licensing

Articles are published under an open-access model and distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). Copyright remains with the authors, who grant the journal a non-exclusive license to publish, distribute, and archive the work.

17. Digital Archiving

The journal ensures long-term digital preservation of published content through institutional repositories and recognized electronic archiving systems.

18. Misconduct Handling

Allegations of misconduct will be investigated following COPE flowcharts and procedures. The journal may conduct investigations and take appropriate action, including rejection, retraction, or notification of institutions.

19. Corrections and Retractions

The journal will publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, or expressions of concern when significant errors or ethical issues are identified after publication. Retractions will be issued in cases of proven misconduct or unreliable findings. All corrections and retractions will be clearly labeled and permanently linked to the original article to maintain transparency and preserve the scholarly record.

20. Appeals and Complaints

Authors may appeal editorial decisions or submit complaints regarding the peer review or editorial process by contacting the Editorial Office at: editor@nanomycology.org

All appeals and complaints will be reviewed objectively by the Editor-in-Chief or an independent member of the Editorial Board. The journal will acknowledge receipt of the appeal or complaint and provide a reasoned response after appropriate investigation.

The Journal of Nanomycology is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics, transparency, and academic integrity. All editorial decisions are based solely on scientific merit and ethical considerations. The journal follows internationally recognized ethical guidelines, including those of COPE.
